Stop & Shop Makes Top 10 of Most Innovative Companies in the Food Industry

SCAN IT! Mobile App Powered by Modiv Media Locks in Spot on Fast Company's Annual List; Technology Makes Grocery Trips More Valuable, Personalized and Convenient for Consumers

Quincy, MA - March 12, 2012 - The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC announced today that it has been named as one of Fast Company Magazine's most innovative companies in the food industry. Stop & Shop was recognized for streamlining the grocery shopping process with an easy-to-use mobile app, powered by Quincy-based in-store mobile commerce company Modiv Media. Stop & Shop's SCAN IT! Mobile app is the first of its kind grocery app that allows customers to use their personal mobile device to scan, tally, and receive personalized savings while they shop.

"Being recognized as an innovator by Fast Company for SCAN IT! Mobile is a tremendous honor," said Mark McGowan, president, Stop & Shop New England Division. "Our goal is to make shopping easier for our customers and we are pleased by their positive response to the app. We're proud to be held in such high regard with other pioneering companies."

In order to come up with the most innovative companies in the industry, Fast Company researches what is "buzzing" in the marketplace and what is being covered in the media to determine a list of contenders. They look for companies that know what they stand for, are willing to scrap conventional ideas, try new things, and aren't scared of failure. Companies do not pitch themselves for this award, and Fast Company recognizes companies that make an impact across their industries and culture.

SCAN IT! Mobile, the retailer-centric solution created by Modiv Media, was introduced to Stop & Shop stores in June 2011. The app allows users to scan and tally their groceries, keeping track of their spending as they shop and making budgeting easier. In addition, shoppers can save an additional $250 - $500 per year by taking advantage of exclusive offers available only to SCAN IT! users. Other companies that made the top 10 in the food industry include Starbucks for its mobile app and payment system, Chipotle for increasing its use of local produce, GrubHub for expanding its online delivery service to mobile, and NessComputing for creating a social food app that recommends what to eat next.

Fast Company's list of the most innovative companies in the world illustrates the power and potential of innovative ideas and creative execution in a variety of industries including; finance, web/internet, music, mobile, media, India, healthcare, gaming, food, fashion, education, consumer electronics, advertising, social media, china, brazil, biotech, and retail.
