STOP & SHOP ALERTS CUSTOMERS TO VOLUNTARY RECALL FROM WAWONA PACKING COMPANY

[Quincy, MA & Purchase, NY] – Following a recall by Wawona Packing Company, Stop & Shop announced it removed from sale its organic peaches and nectarines and certain Orchard Perfect peaches, nectarines and plums due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The following products are included in this recall:

  • Organic Nectarines, PLU 94378
  • Organic Peaches, PLU 94044
  • Orchard Perfect Nectarines, PLU 4378 and PLU 4036
  • Orchard Perfect Peaches, PLU 4044 and PLU 4038
  • Orchard Perfect White Peaches, PLU 4401
  • Orchard Perfect Black Plums, PLU 4040
  • Orchard Perfect White Nectarines, PLU 3035

Stop & Shop has received no reports of illnesses to date. Listeria is a common organism found in nature. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

Customers who purchased the fruit between June 1 and July 21, 2014 should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

NOTE: The source of the Orchard Perfect Nectarines, Peaches and Plums on display in all Stop & Shop stores has been verified and is not affected by the recent product recall issued by Wawona Packing Company of Cutler, California. Stop & Shop removed from sale its organic peaches and nectarines and certain Orchard Perfect peaches, nectarines and plums due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Orchard Perfect stone fruit packed by Wawona Packing Company was supplied to Stop & Shop stores located in the New England Division ONLY. Stop & Shop Stores located in the New York Metro Division received Orchard Perfect stone fruit packed by different suppliers.
