STOP & SHOP OFFERS HEALTHY LIVING BOOKLET TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE IN 2006
Quincy, MA (December 28, 2005) - As the New Year begins, many people will resolve
to live healthier lifestyles. The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company will help their
customers develop and maintain realistic New Year's resolutions by offering "Fresh
Start…Healthy Rewards", a new, free healthy living booklet that offers consumers
simple, but important tips to help understand the importance of eating healthier foods
and exercising. Fresh Start…Healthy Rewards will be available at all Stop &
Shop stores beginning January 1, 2006.
"Our customers are increasingly interested in health and wellness and we know that in the
new year, many customers will resolve to live a healthier life by eating healthy foods
and exercising," said Andrea Astrachan, Stop & Shop's Consumer Advisor. "We want to
be a resource for our customers by helping them understand how to include healthy food
choices in their diets and how to balance calories with activity, which is critical to
overall health and weight control."
Fresh Start…Healthy Rewards is based on three simple principles: 1) Include
healthful food choices every day. 2) Enjoy food and take time to eat with family and
friends. 3) Balance your calories with activity. The Fresh Start booklet also provides
consumers with useful information on calculating daily caloric needs, planning family
meals and eating appropriate portions. In addition, the booklet highlights the rewards of
eating more whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and fat free and low fat dairy
products.
The guide was written by Stop & Shop's in-house nutritionists and reviewed by its
health and wellness advisor, Dr. George Blackburn, S. Daniel Abraham Associate Professor
of Nutrition and Associate Director of Nutrition, Division of Nutrition, Harvard Medical
School.
