Stop & Shop and Staten Island Borough President Provide Emergency Assistance to Area Food Pantries

18 Wheeler Delivers Emergency Food Supplies To Borough Hall

Stop & Shop Supermarkets made an emergency delivery of an 18- wheeler filled with Thanksgiving non- perishable foods to the Staten Island Borough President's office to provide emergency relief and assistance to 45 food pantries across the borough.

Borough President James Molinaro reached out to Stop & Shop when he learned that 45 Staten Island food pantries would not be getting an anticipated delivery, leaving many needy borough residents without food for the holiday. A Police escort from the 122 Pct escorted the Truck to Borough Hall.

The 18- wheeler was loaded with: 80 cases of chicken broth, 128 cases of cake mix, 176 cases of frosting, 103 cases of stuffing, 120 cases of yams, 128 cases of mashed potatoes and stuffing, 80 cases of cranberry sauce, 85 cases green beans, 102 cases corn, and 120 cases gravy.

Stop & Shop is currently in the midst of its Food for Friends program, which raises $1 million for food banks. This Thanksgiving season Stop & Shop has delivered 16,000 turkeys to food banks in its operating states. Stop & Shop raised more than $8 million in 2005 for hunger relief, childhood cancer research and treatment and educational and recreational programs or children.
