Introducing... PayVantage!

Stop & Shop customers can now pay and save with
one swipe of their Stop & Shop card

Quincy, MA October 6, 2005 - Leveraging technology for customer convenience, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company introduces PayVantage, a unique, quick and easy way for customers to pay for their groceries and save money all at once.

The PayVantage service, debuting in 12 Massachusetts locations this week, links a customer's Stop & Shop card to his or her credit card, debit card, or checking account. In addition to giving customers the best possible prices on hundreds of products throughout the store, the Stop & Shop card can now be used to pay at the checkout.

"For years, customers have come to appreciate the savings, ease and convenience of having a Stop & Shop card," said Edward Porter, Vice President of Customer Marketing for Stop & Shop. "Now, they can do it all-save and pay-with one swipe of their Stop & Shop card. It's quick, easy, and secure."

To ensure secure payments, PayVantage customers use a four-to-six digit PIN number at the checkout. PayVantage is backed by First Data, the company that has handled Stop & Shop's credit transactions for over a decade.

"Using PayVantage is every bit as secure as using your credit card," Porter said. "If you ever lost your Stop & Shop card, no one else would be able to use it for any Stop & Shop purchases."

PayVantage will work at all Stop & Shop registers, at the front end as well as the in-store pharmacies, florists, deli counters and Dunkin' Donuts shops. Customers who link their Stop & Shop card also will be able to receive cash back with their purchases.
