Stop & Shop offers bargains for breakfast
Supermarket chain introduces "low prices everyday" on cereal items

(May 3, 2007, Quincy, MA) The most important meal of the day is about to become less expensive for Stop & Shop customers.

On Friday, May 4, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company will unveil its new, lower prices for cereal and other breakfast staples. The new prices mark the latest phase of a program that promises to stretch Stop & Shop's customers' shopping dollar even further. In addition to finding low prices everyday on hot, cold and natural cereals, customers will find reduced prices on granola, breakfast and fruit bars, and wholesome snacks.

These new, lower prices are the latest chapter in Stop & Shop's Value Improvement Program (VIP). Designed to deliver low prices everyday to customers together with great promotions, VIP will continue across the store aisles in the months to come and reduce the cost of a typical family's weekly shopping trip.

"In this country, almost half of us start our day with a bowl of cereal," said Andrea Astrachan, Consumer Advisor for The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company. "Now, with our lower prices, we're offering an even greater value on these popular items."

Customers already have noticed low prices everyday and improved products in Stop & Shop's produce, paper, baby and cleaning supplies departments, and the changes in the cereal aisle heralds VIP's move into Stop & Shop's main grocery offerings. Astrachan said customer response to VIP, which launched in the fall of 2006, has been very positive.

"More and more, our customers are realizing that one-stop-shopping can go hand in hand with great quality and value," she said. "They have been thrilled at what they've seen so far in our produce, paper, cleaning supplies and baby departments, and we want them to know that there is more to come."

Stop & Shop is promoting the new prices for cereal and related products through advertisements on television, radio, the Internet, and outdoor billboards, as well as the chain's weekly circulars and in-store signs.
