Stop & Shop to Raise $5 million to "Strike Out" Childhood Cancer

Stop & Shop, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets to kick-off 16th annual Triple Winner Game to raise $5 million for pediatric cancer research and care

(Quincy, MA) - For the 16th consecutive year, the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company will kick off the Triple Winner Game, a program designed to raise money for the Jimmy Fund and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The 2006 Triple Winner Game will raise $5 million to help fight childhood cancer in Stop & Shop's operating states.

"Through Triple Winner, it has been Stop & Shop's mission to eradicate childhood cancer," said Stop & Shop President and CEO Jose Alvarez. "Because of this program, Stop & Shop associates, customers and suppliers have raised more than $32 million to date to directly support cancer research and care for children."

The Triple Winner Game is a scratch card promotion in which every ticket is an instant winner of either a free product, a gift card or cash prize up to $10,000. The program, which runs from April 16 to July 8, 2006, allows customers who make a $1 donation in any Stop & Shop store to receive a Triple Winner Game ticket.

"It's a program that everyone gets behind-our store associates, management, vendors, and customers," Alvarez said. "Everyone has had their lives affected by cancer in one way or another, and the opportunity to fight this disease in children is something that polarizes everyone to action."

Continuing their support and dedication to the program, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets are partnering with Stop & Shop to promote Triple Winner at home games to the hundreds of thousands of fans who visit Fenway Park and Shea Stadium this summer.

All money raised from the Triple Winner program in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island will directly benefit the Jimmy Fund and the Stop & Shop Pediatric Brain Tumor Clinic. All money raised from the Triple Winner Game in New York and New Jersey will go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, based in Quincy, Massachusetts, employs more than 58,000 associates and operates 376 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey.
