Stop & Shop Sponsors "Keeping the Dream Alive"

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company is sponsoring the 6th annual "Keeping the Dream Alive" youth-cultural-diversity- workshop, at the Waterville Valley Conference Center. Hosted by the New Hampshire Cultural Diversity Awareness Council (NHDAC), this one-day program combines diversity training and skiing for over 250 middle school students.

Taking place on January 11, the goal of the program is to foster greater sensitivity and awareness of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday while promoting cultural diversity. The students come from Pittsburg, New Ipswich, and Londonderry, New Hampshire, as well as North Reading and Boston, Massachusetts (Roxbury and Mattapan).

For its part, Stop & Shop is donating $3,000 towards the event, and associates from the Stop & Shop Training Department spends a day training the event's 30 volunteers who deliver the training to students.

The "Keeping the Dream Alive" diversity program is very unique and innovative collaboration between corporate, civic, law enforcement, and the military. Students learn to address issues such as prejudice relating to one's economic status, language, religious, and ethnic origin. Through the use of interactive exercises, the students learn problem solving strategies and positive ways to resolve conflicts. The morning work session is followed by an afternoon of skiing. "Thanks to the combined efforts and support from our corporate sponsors and community partners, the 'Keeping The Dream Alive' youth-cultural-diversity-workshop is a one-of-it's kind, world class workshop that has lasting positive impact on the students who attend" said Wayne Jennings, Chairman of NHCDAC.
