Quincy, MA (September 30, 2005) - The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, in partnership with Maxim Healthcare, will be offering influenza and pneumonia vaccinations in the pharmacy department of select stores beginning Saturday, October 1 through Saturday, November 19, 2005.

Stop & Shop will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and limit the vaccinations to "high risk" individuals until further notice. High risk individuals includes a person who meets any one of the following criteria: 65 years or older; resides in a nursing home or chronic care facility; has lung, heart, chronic metabolic disease (kidney, blood, or diabetes) or asthma; has any condition that can compromise respiratory function or the handling of respiratory secretions or that can increase the risk of aspiration; pregnant individuals; etc. For additional information visit www.cdc.gov.

Maxim will be providing Stop & Shop with the personnel and vaccine for the vaccination clinics. Licensed Maxim health care professionals will administer the vaccinations at all locations. The cost for each flu vaccination is $25 and pneumonia vaccinations will be available to customers for $35. There is no charge for Medicare beneficiaries with Part B coverage.

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory disease that peaks in the winter months, typically December through March. Each year millions of Americans are affected by the flu.
